From refugee to the year's fastest time to date

Dominic Lobalu, 23, can tell many a story from his eventful life. The story of how he, a refugee from South Sudan, who currently lives and trains in Switzerland, made it to the Diamond League Meeting in Stockholm due to a special travel permit only is a great one all by itself. That he then proceeded to win the 3000 meters race in the year’s fastest time to date makes it truly extraordinary.

We accompanied Dominic Lobalu on his unlikely journey to Sweden and were able to clear a bureaucratic hurdle or two along the way as well.
